The One Job Your Site Must Do

Before you build a single page, decide the one action a visitor should take. This one decision makes every later step faster.

Where you are: Step 1 of getting a real business website live this weekend. You have no site yet. That's fine. The mistake most owners make is opening a website tool first. Don't. Decide the job first.

A website is not a brochure. It's a machine with one output. Every page, headline, and button should push a visitor toward a single action. Pick that action now and the next seven steps get twice as fast, because you'll stop debating what goes where.

Pick exactly ONE primary goal. Not three. One. Choose the thing that actually makes you money:

  • Book a call / consult: service businesses, consultants, contractors.
  • Request a quote: trades, custom work, B2B.
  • Buy now: products with a fixed price.
  • Join the waitlist / get the lead magnet: pre-launch or list-building.
  • Call or text us: local, high-urgency services.

Then define the supporting cast (in one line each):

  1. Who is this for? One sentence describing your best customer.
  2. What do they get? The outcome (skip the feature list).
  3. Why you? One honest reason to trust you.
  4. What's the ask? The single button text (e.g., "Get a free quote").

Write it down. Paste this template into your notes and fill the blanks. You'll feed it to the AI in Chapter 3.

PRIMARY GOAL: ____________________ (the ONE action)
BUTTON TEXT: ____________________
WHO IT'S FOR: ____________________
WHAT THEY GET: ____________________
WHY US: ____________________

This is worth an hour of rework you'll never do. A site with one clear job converts. A site trying to do everything converts no one.

Next up, Chapter 2: pick the tool you'll build on. Honest comparison, no jargon.
