Test and Launch
Test-call your agent, catch the failures before customers do, and take the line live with confidence.
Step 8 of 8: the finish line. You've built the persona, the qualifying questions, booking, handoff, and follow-up. Now you prove it works by calling it yourself, breaking it on purpose, fixing what breaks, and switching it on. Do not skip this. The gap between "looks done" and "actually works" is always found on a real call.
Test in three passes:
Pass 1: the happy path. Call your agent as an ideal customer. Answer normally. Confirm it greets, qualifies, books, and sends the follow-up. Listen for: does it sound natural? Does it wait for you? Did the appointment land on the calendar and the confirmation arrive?
Pass 2: break it on purpose. Real callers are messy. Try:
- Interrupting mid-sentence
- Mumbling or giving a wrong number, then correcting it
- Asking something off-script ("do you take my insurance?")
- Saying "just let me talk to a person"
- Going silent
- Asking it to take a card number (it must refuse and offer a secure link)
Pass 3: check the record. Pull the transcript and recording. Confirm every captured field is correct, the booking is real, the follow-up sent, and no sensitive data was stored. Keep sensitive data private: verify recordings are stored where only you can reach them.
Fix the top failures, then retest. Most fixes are one line in the script box: a clearer question, a firmer refusal, a better fallback. Change one thing, call again.
Going live: start small.
- Point one number at it: after-hours or overflow first, not your main line
- Tell your team it's on and how a call gets handed to them
- Check transcripts daily for the first week and tune
- Watch your per-minute spend against real call volume
Your artifact: the pre-launch checklist. All boxes checked = go live.

When every box is checked, flip it on. You now have a working test line customers can actually call, one that answers, qualifies, books, and follows up. Review Chapter 7 on guardrails periodically as your call volume grows.
