Pick your setup (chat widget + tools)
Choose a no-code website chat platform that fits your needs, with a plain comparison of real categories and a decision checklist.
Step 2 of the pathway. You do not need a developer or a single line of code. A whole category of no-code tools lets you build a website chat assistant by uploading your content and pasting one snippet onto your site. Your job here is to pick one.
What every good option gives you
- A chat widget you embed with a copy-paste snippet.
- A way to train it on your own content (upload files, paste text, or point it at your site).
- A system prompt / instructions field where you control its behavior.
- Transcript logs so you can read every conversation.
- Lead capture (name, email, phone) and often a calendar or CRM connection.
Real categories and examples (named plainly)
- Document-trained website bots: Chatbase, SiteGPT. You upload your FAQs and docs; it answers from them. Fastest path for most operators.
- Support-desk assistants: Intercom Fin and similar. Stronger if you already run a help desk and want tickets plus chat.
- Visual flow builders: Voiceflow. More control over step-by-step conversation logic; a bit more setup.
Do not overthink features. The pattern is the same across all of them: upload content, write instructions, embed, watch transcripts. Any of the above can deliver the outcome in this pathway.
How to choose: decision checklist
PICK-YOUR-PLATFORM CHECKLIST
[ ] Can I embed it with one copy-paste snippet? (required)
[ ] Can I upload/paste my own content to train it? (required)
[ ] Can I edit the system prompt / instructions? (required)
[ ] Can I read full chat transcripts? (required)
[ ] Does it capture leads (name/email/phone)? (required)
[ ] Does it connect to a calendar or let me paste a booking link? (needed for Ch 6)
[ ] Free trial or low starter plan I can test on? (strongly prefer)
[ ] Data handling: where is my data stored, can I delete it? (check before uploading)
Caution: keep sensitive data private. Before you upload anything, read the tool's data policy. Never upload files containing customer PII, contracts, or internal financials just to "give it context." Upload only public-facing content: FAQs, service descriptions, pricing ranges.
Rule of thumb: if you are a non-technical operator, start with a document-trained website bot. You can be live in an afternoon.
