Generate and Read Your Preview Like a Critic
Run your R.O.A.D. brief, get a live preview, then judge it in 90 seconds against the one job your site must do.
Where you are: You pasted the R.O.A.D. brief (Ch 3). The tool is generating. In a minute you'll have a real, clickable site. Don't fall in love with it yet. Judge it first.
Run it:
- Paste the brief and submit. In v0, Claude/Cowork, Framer, or Lovable this produces a working preview, usually in under a minute.
- Open the live preview, not just the code or description. You want to see the actual page.
- Look at it on your phone. Open the preview link on your mobile. Most visitors are on a phone. If it looks bad there, nothing else matters.
Now read it like a critic: the 90-second test. Ask these five questions out loud:
- Headline test: Does the top of the page say what I do and the outcome, in words a stranger gets in 3 seconds? If not, it fails.
- One-job test: Is my primary button obvious and repeated? Can I tap it without scrolling forever?
- Honesty test: Did it invent any reviews, stats, or claims I can't back up? Flag every one.
- Skim test: Reading only the bold headlines top to bottom, does the story make sense?
- Trust test: Would I hand this to my pickiest customer? What's the one thing that would make them bounce?
Capture your fixes in a list. For now, just write what's wrong:
FIX LIST
- Headline: ____________________
- Button / CTA: ____________________
- Fake or unbackable claim to remove: ____________________
- Section that's confusing: ____________________
- One thing that looks cheap: ____________________
Regenerating is free. If the whole thing misses, tell the tool exactly what's off in one message ("the headline is generic, make it about [outcome]; remove the invented testimonial") and let it redo. Two or three rounds is normal and only costs you a few minutes.
Next up, Chapter 5: tighten the copy and get real images in place.
